MISS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR FEATURED IN DOCUMENTARY ON OBESITY

Philip R. Schauer, MD, Founder and Executive Director of MISS, was recently featured in the CNBC investigative program "One Nation Overweight" which examined the obesity epidemic in the United States.  The segment followed Dr. Schauer at Cleveland Clinic as he consulted with patients and performed bariatric surgery.

INTERNATIONALLY RENOWNED BARIATRIC AND LAPAROSCOPIC SURGEONS TO MEET IN SAN DIEGO

October 27, 2009, Cleveland, Ohio: The upcoming prestigious Minimally Invasive Surgery Symposium (MISS) will include discussion of advances in metabolic surgery, a robotic approach to colon surgery, single-port bariatric surgery, transoral gastroplasty, and other “frontier” topics. That February 2010 program announcement was made today by MISS Executive Director Philip R Schauer, MD, on behalf of the symposium’s organizers and 50-member faculty.

The five-day CME conference, which will be held February 22-27 at the San Diego Marriott Hotel & Marina, covers the latest advances in laparoscopic surgery for colon, hernia, and foregut. In addition, its flagship program on morbid obesity is one of the largest gatherings of bariatric specialists in the country. MISS offers surgeons and other clinicians the opportunity to earn as many as 38 AMA PRA CME credits™. In its 10th year, MISS is the premier meeting of thought leaders and pioneers in minimally invasive surgery.

Dr. Schauer, Director of Advanced Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgery at Cleveland Clinic, acknowledged the symposium’s 10th anniversary: “MISS has grown from a small gathering to an internationally recognized conference drawing more than 300 surgeons by providing superior educational content immediately applicable to practice in an informal, collegial atmosphere. The 2010 meeting is certain to be the best MISS yet.”

The MISS faculty features physicians from the apex of bariatric and advanced laparoscopic surgery, including Program Co-Directors Drs. John Dixon, Morris Franklin, Bruce Ramshaw, Lee Swanstrom, and Bruce Wolfe; and faculty members Drs. Jeffrey Allen, Eric DeMaria, David Flum, Harry Frydenberg, Kenneth MacDonald, Jr, Ninh Nguyen, Walter Pories, David Rattner, Francesco Rubino, Bruce Schirmer, and Scott Shikora.

Other topics at MISS 2010 will include novel risk management strategies and management of intra-operative complications. MISS always includes generous opportunity for faculty-audience interchange and a schedule that provides conference participants plenty of time to enjoy local activities and attractions.

The San Diego Marriott Hotel & Marina is conveniently located 10 minutes from the airport and in walking distance of the Gaslamp Quarter, San Diego’s dining and entertainment district. The hotel features sweeping views of the San Diego Bay and onsite access to water activities, including sailing and kayaking. Family attractions, such as the San Diego Zoo and Legoland, are nearby.

MISS 2010 is jointly sponsored by the University of Cincinnati and contemporarysurgery.com. The University of Cincinnati is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Contemporarysurgery.com ( www.contemporarysurgery.com) is the exclusive home of “Surgery Findit,” a time-saving vertical search portal through which surgeons launch focused, relevant searches for information in their field.
